Web Design Process

Step #1: Request and obtain a quote.
Most clients start out by filling out a quote request form. A completed form often gives enough information for me to give a quote, but sometimes I will ask a few questions to get a better idea of the scope of the project before giving the quote. An estimated timeline is also given. If agreed upon, then work beings with a 50% deposit and a contract being signed. The contract contains these Terms and Conditions.

Step #2: Logo Design
If the client has requested logo design, we begin there. Drafts are sent to the client by email and using their feedback, the rough draft is perfected until it suits the client and their business perfectly. This part takes 1-2 weeks if communication is expedient.

Step #3: Web Design
The design part of the website commences. I use the same process as the logo design; providing a draft, getting feedback and perfecting the design. By the end of this step, which can take 2-4 weeks, all content should be submitted to me, including text and pictures so we can proceed to the next step...

Step #4: Web Development
This is where the pages of the site come together. I add your content to the pages and select the correct fonts, font sizes and colors, and placement so the entire site flows together and is easy for the visitor to navigate and read. The first part of Search Engine Optimization is done now, by validating the code for every page, ensuring your content and meta tags are optimized, and building your site map. If using Google Analytics, I add that code as well. If all content has been given to me, this part takes 1-2 weeks.

Step #5: Other services
If the client has ordered business card and/or brochure design, they are done now. The time these take vary greatly, a simple business card can take less then a day while a complex brochure can take 1-3 weeks.

Step #6: Finishing up
Once everything has been approved and final payment made, the site is uploaded and ready to go. Once uploaded, I submit the website to Google, MSN and Yahoo as the final part of my SEO services. Business card or brochure final versions are also sent to the client.

Please note that clients who have content management or e-commerce websites will have a bit different process.
